Our Boujee Little Saturday in Highland Park

How was your weekend? In the spirit of great actors, in case you missed the Emmys last night, there is a classic Will Ferrell line in the movie Old School. A married Will Ferrell is conversing with college coeds at a frat party discussing his plans for a ‘nice little Saturday.’ ‘We’re going to go to Home Depot,‘ he goes on, to ‘buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, & Beyond, I don’t know, I don’t know if we’ll have enough time.’

I remember watching this in college giggling and thinking, ‘woah, sounds so boring!’ Fast forward to now and that’s real life. Although I prefer HomeGoods to Home Depot; going there kid-free on a Saturday morning would seem like a ‘spa’ day.

Over the weekend, we made our way to Highland Park Village. If you watch Real Housewives of Dallas and wonder if it’s as fancy as it seems, it is. We took the girls out last Saturday for the monthly free event in HP. The neighborhood market for some kid fun. ‘A‘ is for ‘affluent,’ ‘B‘ is for ‘Boujee’ and ‘C‘ is for ‘Couture’ as you’ll pass one designer boutique after another from Chanel, Hermès to Reese Witherspoon’s store Draper James. Here we go to Highland Park for a ‘nice little Saturday’ in Dallas…

The Scene – Highland Park Village for the seasonal LOCAL neighborhood market one Saturday a month. More event news and pic via hpvillage.com

What to Wear to Highland Park Village – There is no official dress code, and many women are in distressed designer jeans or casual attire if they are coming from a tennis lesson or sporting lululemons after Pilates. I decided to wear a Chanel inspired dress (from H&M) and a new belt-bag in case we decided to grab coffee and cupcake from Bird Bakery.

The Tot – A local Highland Park toy store called The Tot has pop-up craft stations that Mina LOVES while I bought White Rock Granola and a delicious pastry by Naturally Curly Cook at a stand a nearby. Local tip – Naturally Curly Cook pastries are available at multiple locations in Dallas including Royal Blue Grocery and Cafe Victoria in Victory Park.

My New Fave ‘Mom-Friendly’ Accessory – I bought this faux leather belt-bag in Majorca last month from MANGO and love it so I can keep baby snacks and my cell phone on me while I’m out and about. Link at the end of the post because it’s available in 3 shades online now!

Our nice little Saturday was still a hot and humid one in Dallas. We decided to head out to Grapevine, TX for Grapefest – winetasting, carnival rides and Lemonade Shakeups. On our walk out of HP Village, we passed by Dior…

‘Papa, I want this Purse’ – I had scoot Mina along after she stopped outside Dior and begging my husband to buy her this J’ADIOR handbag with her palms pressed against the window. Gulp!

Your Doc McStuffins bag is way cuter,’ I assured her as we moved down the sidewalk making a mental note to avoid Highland Park Village for back-to-school shopping in her teenage years.

Highland Park Estate Sale – We popped into an estate sale on our way out, but navigating two stories of art and antiques with kids wasn’t happening. If you’re curious about Highland Park in Dallas, check out one of my first posts ‘Mansion Hunting in Texas.’

Until next time Highland Park…
