What is Your Starbucks Name?

What is your Starbucks name? After this video went viral a few days ago by a Starbucks barista named Paul who spells customers names wrong on purpose, even Forbes asked, ‘Is Starbucks Personalization – Evil, Funny or Brilliant?’ The article quotes Dale Carnegie’s sixth principle, “Remember that a person’s name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language.”

Clearly, misspelling names is common at Starbucks, but it happened to me 3 times in a row last week here in Zurich. I’d say ‘Dale,’ and each time, my Caramel Frappuccino came out ‘Thea,’ as they yelled out ‘Tay-ya.’ Except, instead of being annoyed or confused like in the video, I happen to love my Swiss Starbucks name. They even write it fancy.

As long as Starbucks isn’t butchering your name into anything offensive, it can be an amusing start your day – whether it’s on purpose or not – right? Plus, ‘Thea’ is a lot better than my SOMA Starbucks name in San Francisco…’Dell.’ Ugh!

What is the worst spelling or random name you’ve had at Starbucks? Or does your barista always get your name right?

See you tomorrow!

  1. I’ve never had a Star Bucks as I don’t drink coffee… however; I have had my name butchered due to the spelling and the actual way it sounds. It is Launna but it’s pronounced La-Wanna ♡

  2. I got “Cootney” the last time I went. Which I thought was pretty great. The last time my co-worker did a coffee run she bought four things and gave my name for the order and every cup had a different variation of my name on it by the end. Yesterday I went and asked for “Amy” to be the order name and it came out “Emy”. Ah, Starbucks.

Lol, I didnt know that video but it made me smile as is the first thing I thought first time I went to a Starbucks, they just write “Lily” (I prefer my nick instead of real name), even though with the spelling! I think is amusing and love yours “Thea”, I dont know how they have got that though! Always better than the one at San Francisco Starbucks!:P Kisses Dale! xo

  5. I always get Wendy or Brittany. No sweat off my back though 🙂

  6. I have to tell my friend Dale! One time she got so mad. LOL
