90s Style in San Francisco with our New Fave Spots in the City!

San Francisco has had some bad news wafting in the press lately. From the New York times article titled ‘Life on the Dirtiest Block in San Francisco‘ to tech companies leaving the Bay Area for more affordable cities. But I still love SF every now and then! From blue skies to the Blue Angels during Fleet Week, one of the most beautiful times to visit the ‘City by the Bay’ is October.

I also truly appreciate San Francisco for its ‘walkability‘ factor. If I want to cross the daily Fitbit ‘goal’ of 10K steps in Dallas, I have to really, really try from adding a mile on the treadmill to making an extra round in Central Market. In SF, it’s a breeze to blaze by 15K or 20K steps a day. If you’re brave enough to walk through some parts of SOMA or downtown, between weaving in and out of needles, tents, and human waste on sidewalks, you can even add in some plyo. Literally, it’s hops over plops for blocks.

We had the chance to soak in a rare sunny day over summer, as I accessorized in some of my favorite retro looks including NEW! 90’s Savvy Scrunchies, my dad’s Levi’s denim jacket he wore in the 80’s, and a fun red HUNTER for Target fanny pack…

The Scene – San Francisco, California (my mom pushing our 3-year-old down the Embarcadero)

Hip Pack Love – This HUNTER for Target fanny pack has been perfect all summer through Fall. Although I wore it around my waist to keep my phone, and credit cards safe as we strolled through SF. My husband wore it through Europe like this.

Boxy Denim Jackets for Fall – Kim from Northern California Style (Who I just had the chance to meet in person over coffee in Palo Alto last month – check out her post here) shared all of her favorite ‘Boyfriend Denim Jacket‘ looks. They are perfect for layering over fall sweaters.

Savvy Scrunchies! We launched Savvy Scrunchies this summer as a nod to the 90s made from the same smooth satin we use for our pillowcase collection. Not only are they gentle on hair, but they can make a simple bun feel more full especially if you have shorter hair.

Family Time in SF – We stopped by some of new favorite spots like Sam’s Grill and Seafood (which is one of the oldest restaurants in SF). Traveling in San Francisco takes some special skills keeping the kids safe. I wrote a Travel PSA about that here and a Guide to Eating in San Fran restaurants with kids.

Illy Cafe – Skip Starbucks and check out one of the numerous Italian Illy cafes that have popped up throughout SF’s Financial District. Cappuccino for me, Paw Patrol for her. Perfect 15 minutes.

Until next time San Francisco…

    Gruetzi Dale!
Wow your daughter already is 3!
Happy to see your site still is up and running.

And that fanny packs are making a comeback.
When my kids were growing up I always had one.
I sort of formed that Habit so that even when they were grown I still was toting my fanny pack around. OMG they made so much fun of me! Now that they’re back perhaps I add that request to my wish list.
