Netflix and Neapolitan Pizza. My New Friday Nights

Yay, it’s Friday! As a kid, Friday nights were my fave gathered around our kitchen table, or our neighbor’s up the dirt road. An evening of pizza, card games, and even political discussions. The guest list included my siblings, parents, friends and great Aunts and Uncles. It’s come full circle now in Dallas with my own little family and I can’t wait for my husband to walk through the door every Friday. The stress level is taken down a notch as it’s finally the weekend to relax. That’s my version of ‘Netflix and Chill.’ Speaking of Netflix, we just finished watching ‘Wild Wild Country.’ Anything you’d recommend next?

I used to spend hours getting ready to go out on Friday nights. Now it’s 20 minutes or less and we’re out the door. On a sidenote, I was so sad a couple weeks ago when I heard Avicii died. Did you love his music too? RIP. I might run out of the house with messy hair, chipped nails, and fading foundation, but I still have a few tricks for feeling put together on a Friday night date (with the kids)…

The Scene Cane Rosso in Deep Ellum (one of the best pizza places we’ve found in Dallas). We love the casual outdoor seating and it claims to be the ‘most authentic wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas in Texas.’ There are also locations in Austin, Houston and Fort Worth.

Start with Salad – I always start with the Capra salad and Sangria, why not? When I was 15, eating 4 slices of pizza was no prob, now I try to fill up on salad first.

Blu-Red Lips! – I don’t usually wear red lipstick, but I decided to try Lipsense after seeing so much chatter about it on social media. Surprisingly, it didn’t smudge while drinking sangria, eating pizza, or having my 7-month old grab my face. I might not wear it daily, but for nights out like this, especially in such a bold color, I recommend it.

Navy & White Stripes – Nautical style is my go-to when I’m in a pinch for time because it’s classic and always works with blue jeans. Plus, if we can’t snag an outdoor table, this top keeps me warm indoors when Dallas restaurants start cranking the AC to 65 degrees starting in the Spring.

Pizza Time – Our fave is the ‘Friday Night Frankie‘ (pepperoni, candied jalapenos, san marzanos, housemade mozzarella, grated parmesan). My husband (a pizza snob) says in Dallas, it’s as close to authentic pizza he’s had in Italy. pic via CaneRosso.com

Family Time – My brother, Paul, was on Spring Break a few weeks ago from UC Santa Barbara so he visited us in Dallas. Yay, babysitting help! Time flies – he was just a toddler during family pizza nights when I was a teen.

<DETAILS by Dale> top – Tommy Hilfiger (last seen here in SF), high-waisted jeans – Zara, purse – Feragammo, red lips (Lipsense – Blu Redmy friend Iris sells it here) / Kids in Carters dress & baby Versace onsie

What are your Friday night traditions? Pizza night?

DFW Announcement- If you’re in Dallas, I have attended The Warren Center’s Art of Music Gala the past two years and it’s a beautiful event. The Warren Center is a nonprofit agency that advocates, serves and empowers the children and families impacted by developmental delays and disabilities. The Gala helps raise funds for programs and families in DFW. The Kickoff Party for the 2019 Gala is next Thursday if you’d like to come! It’s at the AC Hotel just down the street from Cane Rosso actually. RSVP HERE Details below:

  1. Dale, You make Friday Pizza nights look chic! How cute you and the kids are even color coordinated. I agree something about low key Friday nights is really nice and I look forward to the week being over and the weekend always seems full of possibilities! That pizza and sangria looks amazing. Wish we had that there. Only thing that is nice is California rarely has too much A/C right? Funny how you notice it as soon as you travel elsewhere in the U.S. Thanks Dale for your sweet notes on my grandma post. Meant a lot. Have a beautiful weekend! xx Kim
