Go-To Weekend Look in Tangerine Tommy Hilfiger

‘You want to look fashionable and put together, not like you hit every sale rack this season.’

~ Tommy Hilfiger

Although I agree with the first half of Mr. Hilfiger’s statement, every piece of Tommy clothing I’ve bought in years has been off the sale rack, an outlet store or TJ Maxx. One shift in my style after marrying a European has been adding more classic brands to my wardrobe that seemed so boring in my 20’s.

Europeans love Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, and even Abercrombie & Fitch. Just breeze through the Union Square A&F in San Francisco if you can choke your way through the cologne and you’re likely to bump into European men shopping for fitted cotton tee’s. A&F isn’t for me these days, but when I spotted this tangerine Tommy Hilfiger dress on sale recently, I couldn’t resist. I’m not trying to squeeze into the Tommy Hilfiger x Gigi Hadid collection, but I do have some style tricks for a ‘put-together‘ super simple ‘Tommy Girl Mom’ weekend look…

The Scene – Neighborhood near White Rock Lake in Dallas for an afternoon home tour. Home tours  in Dallas seem to be a popular fundraising activity. Check out the AIA Dallas Home Tour coming later this fall in October for a chance to see 8-10 jaw-dropping homes in Dallas.

Keep an Eye Out for Pockets – I always look for dresses & skirts with pockets which instantly adds a unique quality to a simple dress.*Photo bonus: If you’re going to an event taking lots of pics like a baby shower, bridal party, or wedding, put your hand in your pocket instead of the classic ‘hand-on-hip-to-make-arm-look-thinner‘ trick.

Low Maintenance Low Bun – Sure, I’m not winning any hair awards, but when I have 5-minutes max to do my hair, here’s the formula: Add a few clip-in extensions to the back of my hair, pull into a low pony and wrap into a messy bun. Hairspray and go. Low ponytails and buns look more formal, even if they’re messy, and will look ‘put together‘ if you’re wearing a dress or collared shirt & skirt.

Stick to Solids Snatch up looks that are great quality like Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Michael Kors (all 4 brands are all over discount retailer racks) and look for solid shades for summer like tangerine, greenery, or this pistachio shade I wore last summer in LA. A shift dress in a bright solid will last season after season and you can add new trendy heels or jewelry.

Beauty Hacks Worth Knowing – This week, DFW blogger, Katey of Chronicles of Frivolity posted her 10 Top Beauty Hacks this season. Highly recommended if you’re looking for simple tricks from whiter teeth to fixing brassy blond hair, and feeling better every day.

Go Wild for Kitten Heels I just found these Dior floral print kitten heels recently at Clotheshorse Anonymous in Dallas. Kitten heels are comfy, will make you feel more dressed up than flats, and you may be able to find designer pairs from past seasons on Ebay, Etsy, in consignment shops or your mom’s closet.
