There’s a study you’ve probably heard that ‘American consumers are willing to spend more with companies that provide outstanding service, and they will also tell, on average, twice as many people about bad service than they are about good service.’

If I have grandchildren one day, there’s a few old ‘fashion tales‘ I’ll always remember to tell them. The horror story about the homeless woman who ripped out my hair extensions walking down the street in San Francisco, strategies during crazy designer collaborations like our Versace for H&M night, and most recently, my Trois Pommes Tale at the Prada store in Zurich which leads to the Prada + Savvy Sleepers Giveaway at the end of this post…


The day before Christmas I walked into the Prada store in Zurich above. My husband (who is super hard to shop for) put a key chain on his ‘wish list.’ I started browsing and then…


I found one! Perfect, I thought. My husband opened it on Christmas Eve in Frankfurt, Germany but it was a little bulky for his style. ‘Don’t worry, we can exchange it tomorrow so you’ll have the one you love,’  I said. The next day we walked 20 minutes in the snow to the Prada store in Frankfurt…


I walked in the Frankfurt Prada store in this not-so-stylish (but warm) ensemble including lime green fleece-lined mittens. We went to the counter to exchange our keychain for a different style when the associate studied the Prada receipt, smiled, then called a manager over.

The manager looked over the receipt and gave me a weird look as if I bought it at a flea market trying to return it to them. ‘Where did you buy this?’ he asked. ‘At the Prada store in Zurich,’ I replied. After a phone call, he came back and said, ‘We’re sorry, you can’t exchange it here, we don’t recognize where you bought it as an official Prada store. You’ll have to deal with it in Switzerland.’  So much for luxury customer service.


UPDATE: As it turns out, the shady franchise Prada store here in Zurich is owned by the infamous Trois Pommes CEO, Trudie Götz. Trois Pommes is a chain of boutiques in Switzerland known worldwide for telling Oprah a $38,000 handbag was ‘too expensive‘ for her back in 2013 as she shopped in Zurich. Turns out, Prada has decided to part ways with her, and this exact location will shut down.

(Sidenote) If you live, shop or travel in Zurich, I recommend avoiding or being very careful about shopping in any Trois Pommes stores. They portray locations as official, but may not be recognized by the brands. Here’s a full list of all stores owned by Trois Pommes in Zurich.


Sooo…. As much as I’d love this little key chain for myself, after being embarrassed by managers in Frankfurt and bamboozled by the Trois Pommes Prada store in Zurich, of course I can’t keep it so I’m giving it away to one WINNER!   5. Dale, what a horrible experience!!! Girl, you could write a book! Such a lovely key chain! It’s fabulous and would love to have it. Experiences like that are major turn offs. So I understand. So sorry you had to go through that.
