Pepsi-Cola Chic

When it comes to your diet, how do you label yourself? Vegan, vegetarian, Gluten-Free, or a classic ‘picky’ eater like myself. In my mid-twenties living in San Francisco, I tried to hide the fact I was a ‘picky eater‘ every time a fancy-schmancy California fusion hotspot opened. But my faux shellfish allergy would only go so far and hiding tuna belly under kale leaves was a daunting task during dinner parties. At least it’s more accepted now to have major dietary restrictions.

Although in Europe, every country has its own specialties that are just too much for my palate. Bratwurst and sauerkrautjust can’t do it…without a liter of beer. Escargot and frog legsAhhh! No way. Veal Wienerschnitzelnope, I don’t eat babies. I know I’m an unadventurous picky eater which is why I was completely surprised when we visited Poland last weekend and I ABSOLUTELY loved all the traditional specialties. Here’s our ‘Weekend in Poland Part II’ styled in stripes and sipping the most popular soda in town, Pepsi-Cola…

<‘Catch that Pepsi Spirit’ – That was the brand’s 1980 slogan btw, but Poland is the first place I’ve seen since the US in the 90’s with Pepsi sold EVERYWHERE. Check out this ‘Beach Club’ we saw on a walk to the lake in South Poland>

<Country Side Casual – Red, white and blue sundress, a denim jacket & classic white Converse>

<Berry Picking following an afternoon downpour>

<Do You Know Your Berries? From raspberries, blackberries, huckleberries, you name it, I thought I knew them. But these are called Johannes Berries (or red currants)- part of the gooseberry family in Europe including Poland. They’re a bit sour like cranberries – have you ever had these?

<Polish Vodka Anyone? – An outdoor bar near a campsite at the lake in S. Poland>

<Do your weekends fly by too fast? Here’s a secret – I had NO internet the entire weekend out in the country and my husband, his family and I sat on patio drinking tea, exploring, and I even learned some Polish. Most importantly, the day seemed twice as long compared to weekends with my iphone>

<My Favorite Restaurant in Europe – Karczma Opolska Strzecha I loved everything here from the Polish Borscht beet soup, Pierogi dumplings, Polish ‘krokiety’ (croquettes). Definitely try traditional Polish food if you ever get the chance, especially if you’re a picky eater>

<DETAILS by Dale> Zara dress (last season) / Cruciani Angel Heart bracelet c/o / Pepsi GMT vintage watch / Converse /  33Knots Light Blue Prayer Bracelet c/o / Baby blue lace hair tie6D Hairties c/o (Made in the USA)

Do you consider yourself a picky eater or do you have a special diet you’re trying?

Speaking of diets, check out some of my friends’ latest blog posts! Nia of Naturally Nia here in Switzerland just wrote about what is was like to go TOTALLY VEGAN for A WEEK and Whitney of To Live and Diet in LA just broke it down in Don’t Be a Dietary Label Whore. Have a great weekend!

  1. Thanks for the shout out girl! I think your faux shellfish allergy is pretty funny actually! I’ve pretended to be allergic to butter at restaurants so they will be nice about leaving it out haha!

  2. haha butter! That’s a good one too! You’re welcome btw 🙂

  3. That is such a cute dress! I’m not all that picky but I don’t really eat shellfish much because my husband is actually allergic to it and I want to show solidarity. Good thing I don’t like it all that much to begin with 🙂

    Rowena @ rolala loves

  4. I totally get where you’re coming from! I am such a picky eater myself. I am so guilty for spitting ceviche in a napkin when no one is looking 😀

  5. Cute out fit Dale… ♡

    I don’t have dietary restrictions but I am a very picky eater… I just can’t get past some things… your whole list…lol

  6. love everything! great photos 😀

Visit my blog? xx Miss Beatrix (http://missbeatrix.blogspot.com)

  7. The restaurant looks awesome. I never see the building like this.

  8. Wow! Surprised you can get Pepsi everywhere. I know in Spain I can’t buy Pepsi anywhere (only Coke!) I am not a picky eater as such but I do have some funny quirks i.e I won’t eat food that is very wet. So never serve me up a warm winter stew or something like that. Very strange especially when I love soups!!! Go figure 😉

  9. Dale, your outfit is just too cute for words! Modern day soda shop. I can’t eat those things either Dale. It is what it is. HAHAHAHA

  10. I’m actually vegan 🙂 In October I will have been vegan for 5 years. That’s cool that you moved from California to Switzerland. My boyfriend and I will be backing packing across Europe next spring. Can’t wait!
