Flirting with Floral Print

Savvy Spice fashion bl

Floral print isn’t for the faint of heart. From roses, peonies, daisies and daffodils; there are so many ways to do it right and wrong. Maybe you remember Kim Kardashian in that tragic floral print head-to-toe dress last year at the Met Gala?

I had to do a double-take at this dress wondering if I should buy it or if it was too similar to a 70’s style sofa we sold at my family’s annual yard sale. Decisions decisions. Although, there is something so romantic and feminine about floral print that I always have something in-bloom hanging in my wardrobe. Here’s my 5 favorite ways to accessorize floral print including creating your own lipstick shade and how to rock pasty white legs on a February Date night…

1. Make Your Lips ‘Pop’ ~ I love super simple ‘DIYs’ so on days when I don’t want neon pink lips or just plain red, I mix the two. I was wearing hot pink Nicki Minaj by MAC and then I added a layer of MAC Russian Red on top for a new color.

2. Layer in Light Shades ~ Have you ever been super pale in the winter and then wear all black? It can be harsh and make the mood feel dark in general. Layering in light neutral shades is like a pre-fall warm up. Plus, it camouflages the fact my legs haven’t seen sunlight in months.

3. Oops, roots! – When you haven’t had your hair highlighted since Nov. like me here you may need a quick fix. If you’re wearing your hair down, make sure your hair has volume and part it slightly off. Or wear it in a top knot and add extensions (like I did here) in a lighter shade so people see your blond bun and can’t really tell how bad your roots are unless they’re standing directly over you.

4. Floral Mix and Metallics ~ It seems like gold and silver metallic heels go with nearly every pattern these days – kinda like nude heels had their craze – so don’t shy away from them. (Sidenote) Valentine’s Glam Trick – I will definitely be apply Fake Bake self tanner before V-Day. They’re having a 15% off sale right now on their ‘Flawless Gift Set.‘ Order Here. CODE: FBGIFT15

5. Look for Perennial Patterns ~ Some floral prints come and go, so finding a floral pattern that’s not super trendy (i.e. neon blue baby’s breath print) and can be worn every season fall through spring will get it more use.
