‘Fashion fades, only style remains the same.’ – Coco Chanel. Do you agree? My style changes daily and from year to year; either way Coco wouldn’t appreciate my public display of hoodies and stretchy pants. Speaking of Chanel, I can count my ‘designer collection’ on one hand. My wardrobe has always been 90% budget friendly and 10% designer splurges for statement pieces like heels, sunglasses and the occasional handbag that can take a look-for-less to the next level.
To my surprise last week, my husband walked into the kitchen on our 1 year anniversary (we met Halloween 2012) carrying a chocolate brown gift-bag. My initial response was ‘Gulp…uh, what’s that?’ He saw the smile on my face and admitted he’d been planning the gift since summer and I feel like ‘It’ deserves an introduction since this over-the-top monogrammed pistachio tote will steal the spotlight of this post regardless. Here’s the new W Tote by Louis Vuitton on a lakeside stroll in Switzerland, plus my top 3 secrets for upgrading all of my budget-friendly outfits…
Meet Pistachio ~ I named her after the color itself, but this LV tote is part of the new W bag collection that came out last summer.
Louis Vuitton in the News ~ There has been so much talk this week about LV confirming that Nicolas Ghesquière from Balenciaga will take over as Marc Jacob’s replacement. The Purse Blog has plenty of recent articles after LV’s value dipped 12% compared to last year because the ‘ubiquitous’ logo bags are everywhere. So they’re making changes, but is it too late? Now onto the style tricks…
Trick 1: Vintage Jewelry ~ I came across Sweet & Spark Curated Vintage jewelry based in San Francisco (and featured the CEO, Jillian, in yesterday’s ‘Behind the Brand‘ post.) This 70’s tassel necklace was one of my faves and I’ve always loved altering vintage dresses making them 1-of-a-kind.
Trick 2: Reconsider the Little Black Dress ~ There is something about navy blue that is rich, and still looks formal day or night without being the typical LBD. Avoid crazy patterns which tend to look less expensive than solid colors.
Trick 3: Ponytail Upgrade ~ Try adding your own version of a high-fashion hairstyle. To take my pony from gym time to going-out, I added extensions and wrapped a strand around the hair tie securing so it’s covered, then secured it with a bobby pin.
