You don’t have to live in Tinseltown to feel the magic of Hollywood pulsing through your veins. Whether you watch movies the ‘old fashioned’ way in theaters or kick back with Netflix on your ultra-comf microfiber couch; Film Festivals are alive and kicking. You can see films about to be released and often, the director walks in for a Q&A session after the movie ends.
This weekend, we went to the 9th Annual Zurich Film Festival. From Hugh Jackman graciously greeting hoards of screaming Swiss fans on the red carpet to screening an actual SF Bay Area based movie; here’s how the day went from ‘Action’ to ‘Let’s Call it a Night…’
The Scene ~ Film Festivals are the perfect occasion for a ‘Girl’s Day Out’ or a ‘date.’ Taking her to a ‘Film Festival’ is more glamorous and romantic than greasy popcorn and a matinee. Browse the selection of films, get tickets ahead of time, explore the city. After the film, grab a glass of wine or dinner and discuss if the movie has Oscar potential. It’s your turn to be a critic.
Walk On ~ If you’re a blogger looking to cover the event, call or email ahead to the PR contact and request a ‘Press Pass.’ The worst that can happen is they’ve already released them all or say ‘No.’ It’s worth a try.
Wardrobe ~ No need to get ‘over-dressed‘ unless you’re the lead actor in the film hitting the red carpet. You’ll most likely be walking to different showings and the vibe is generally casual and relaxed for the day. I recommend a graphic tee, dark denim or a leather skirt and don’t forget a jacket in case the theater is chilly.
The Olive Green-light ~ Olive green is a perfect fall palate paired with black, burgundy or neutral. Don’t forget a phone for instagram snaps, although they are very strict that absolutely no photos or video are snapped in the theater.
This was my first film festival. We saw the movie ‘Fruitvale Station‘ which was a very emotional movie based off a true story in the SF Bay Area. Have you ever been to a film festival or wanted to go? Check your city and here’s a few below coming soon… ~xoDale
