We met on Halloween, got engaged just before Valentine’s Day, and almost nine months from the day we laid eyes on each other, we were pronounced husband and wife. We decided to get married in Ukiah, CA where I grew up my entire life until college. From the moment my mom passed over the ‘Real Simple‘ ultimate wedding checklist last spring which recommends 9-18 months of planning, I knew we had our work cut out for us to make it in time for the big August 3rd date.
We chose the same church downtown where my parents got married over 30 years ago. We kept the ceremony brief and the vows traditional officiated by my hometown minister, Pastor Schulz. After the ‘I Do’s,’ Jakob and I walked down the aisle together in the packed church of smiling faces. We took a few minutes to ourselves as our family and friends who traveled from far and near gathered out front. Nervous, but excited, I held onto his arm through the church doors seeing guests prepared to shower us with environmentally friendly heart-shaped wedding rice…
Many of Jakob’s German and Swiss friends flew in from Europe for the wedding. They rented the most all-American cars they could find from a Dodge Challenger with orange racing stripes to this convertible Ford Mustang which we drove away in the most appropriate small town Nor-Cal wedding exit I could imagine. I love the idea of the “all-American” cars, such fun! That’s so sweet that you got married in the same church as your parents. I can’t wait to see more!
You look gorgeous gal! Re-reading this I forgot how quickly everything happened. What an exciting whirlwind and wonderful story to begin your collective future with. I can’t wait to see and hear more details. What are your plans now? Are you going to be residing stateside or heading back to the EU? Either way I’d love to catch up and dish about this, that & the other 😉
