Boatshoes, Boyshorts & Bubbly! Hop Aboard the Fleet Week Finale

Last weekend was Fleet Week in San Francisco and the America’s Cup trials which resulted in an amped up 4th of July-esque celebration complete with Hollywood special effects in the sky and sea. I went out on a chartered sailboat for the first time with a group of friends on the Bay. October is one of the most beautiful months with ideal weather in San Francisco so I highly recommend our Captain, Josh, and his chartered boat.

As we cruised the bay, my sister and I learned that not only were we not born with sea-legs, there is also one dress style to never wear on a sail boat…

Huge Ships & BigBad Sponsors ~ All the big boys were out in the Bay last Saturday from the America’s Cup sponsors like Oracle, J.P. Morgan and Louis Vuitton to the US Military

Re-styled Nautical ~ My sister wore this same Rachel Roy dress I wore in my ‘Nautical Networking’ post, but tied a sweater around her shoulders instead and added her own hair twists as seen below

Sea-Salt Air & Caramel Highlights ~ Rather than fighting the frizzy elements on the bay, she pulled all her wavy hair to one side and added a simple side headband braid to keep it out of her face.

How to Take a Ponytail from the Gym to Going-Out ~ Whenever I wear my hair in a simple ponytail out, I take a strand of hair and wrap it around my pony tail holder and bobby pin it in place.

The Guys

The Ladies
A packed Ghirardelli Square and Fisherman’s Warf

The Captain & friends including my tennis buddy and US Open Crew from past posts

A Valuable Sailing Lesson for Females ~ This was my first time at sea and my sister, Laura  and I all wore the same style dress: Cinched at the waist and flared out. Big mistake. This made it very difficult to keep our balance so we didn’t fall overboard and hold our dresses in the wind. Thanks to boy shorts and boat shoes instead of wedges we survived. Also, sparkling water was helpful for queasiness.

And that’s a wrap on Fleet Week fashion, if you’re ever planning a trip to San Francisco, October is a perfect time.
