Woohoo California! Summertime is all warm weather, beaches and sunshine right? Wrong. Mark Twain wasn’t kidding about that whole ‘coldest winter was his summer in San Francisco’ saying. It’s true. Sure, there’s sunny days, but I try to escape SF almost every weekend throughout July to avoid the frigid 60 degree temps. If you spend a day on SF’s Ocean Beach this summer, the easiest way to have a ball is to bring one. A beach ball, football or even a Frisbee because cardio is one of the few ways to stay warm in the sand.
Some friends and I went out Sunday crossing our fingers for a fog free afternoon. Here’s a few styles and treats to brighten up a gloomy day on the beach including one of my favorite trends, PEPLUM…
For misty windy beaches, a Northface jacket or blanket is highly recommended. Brrr!
Don’t let the SF Summer Buzz Kill Cramp your Style ~ Despite the SF chill factor & wind, I still love wearing bright colors, sandals, candy colored bangles and these high waisted vintage plaid trousers.
Oh Peplum, Please Stay for a While ~ If you haven’t tried a peplum top, dress or skirt this summer, definitely pencil it into your shopping list. The style is universally flattering and was featured on Refinery29 by celebrity stylist June Ambrose as one of the 5 Ways to Look Slimmer this Summer. Peplum creates curves or conceals them depending on what you want.
Life is Not Always a Picnic ~ While I brought this basket of goodies along to the beach, we ended up staying 10 minutes before heading home to watch the season premiere of ‘Breaking Bad.’ These are some of my picnic essentials. From Left to Right: Chilled Rose c/o Cairdean Vineyards. Follow them on twitter & FB to learn more about this NEW St. Helena winery opening soon! Goodies like Gluten Free Croutons & Mustard are from one of the hippest food stores in SF with every food imaginable called Buyer’s Best Friend. Ginger Chews by the GingerPeople P.S. Their GinGins hard candies work wonders for motion sickness on those long summer road trips or flights.)
Little Boxes ~ SF is one of the few cities where your outfit may color coordinate with an entire neighborhood. If you visit SF, you’ll see blocks with homes happily painted in every color of the rainbow. (Houses along Ocean Beach)
Bold Pastels ~ Colorful summer statement necklace by Zara will liven up any plain white top
Fur Coats ~ Wallee was the only one dressed appropriately who didn’t seem to mind the cold
Behind the Scenes~ (Doggy Edition)
Sad Wallee Stuck in City Traffic ~ (A little bit about him) He was actually a rescue dog found living on the streets. My neighbor adopted him from Rocket Dog Rescue and appointed him CEO of the City Supply Co tees so you’ll often see him on my blog & their Tee’s have had shout outs on the Dan Patrick Show this week. Good work Guys!
Happy Wallee at the Ocean ~ Not only does he love long walks on the beach which he never would have experienced if he wasn’t adopted; he also enjoys his time being cradled by professional models & picking up babes at local dog parks. While I may complain about San Francisco’s chilly summer months; on the flip side, it could be scorching hot! What is the summer like in your city?
