Atlantic-Pacific’s ‘Look for Less’ ~A ‘Creme de la Creme’ DIY

In the world of fashion blogging, everyone has their faves and one of mine (and maybe yours too) is Blair of Atlantic-Pacific. She always looks soo classy, unique and styled perfectly in her outfits. While there’s some TopShop, H&M, and ASOS sprinkled into her ensembles; by the time I could afford many of her outfits & accessories it would be a few seasons later. simple smile

Last week, she debuted a really cute casual “Creme de la Creme” cotton-blend sweatshirt with a pair of denim and leopard heels. When I clicked on the sweatshirt by Zoe Karssen, not only was it sold out already, it was $160. Knowing that even a million dollar sweatshirt would end up in my ‘gym clothes’ drawer within a month, I thought Hmm, maybe I could re-create it?‘ So I made a knock-off, threw on a pair of jeans, brushed my bangs back and tried my best. While it’s definitely not the original, here’s my ‘Creme De La Creme’ DIY below attempting to create Atlantic-Pacific’s ‘Look for Less’….

Super Quick Messy Bun ~ Brush your hair into a high ponytail, tease it and swirl into a bun. Then bobby pin it & hairspray in place.
Unexpectedly Clutch ~ It’s not vintage, but sometimes it’s fun to choose a beaded, leather or sparkly clutch and pair it with a casual outfit. (TJMaxx)
Buzzin’ ~ I only drink coffee a few days a week; but when I do, it’s a Greater Alarm at Philz Coffee with meduim creme & sugar. (SF Tip) ~ If you’re visiting the city, try to grab a cup of Philz. They’re famous for brewing one cup at a time and you’ll feel the difference in about 3 sips. simple smile

Bravo!’s ‘Silicon Valley’ Weekend Styling Update

The past few months flew by faster than Kim Kardashian’s 72-day marriage and it’s official; the first season of Bravo!’s ‘Silicon Valley’ has nearly wrapped filming and will air later this year! I styled cast member Hermione Way for certain events and interviews throughout the season. The new reality show follows 7 entrepreneurs and their adventures in start-ups, relationships, and the high-stress intensity of running their own companies in Silicon Valley.

Often, I’d see Hermione when she had a quick break rushing from a meeting or conferences all day in the Bay Area. If only I could create an app that dispensed shimmer lotion or a lipgloss iPhone attachment. 😉 Until then, here’s a 30 second peek into a recent ‘Silicon Valley’ on-the-go styling sesh…
Hermione had an event for the launch of a new app called Goal Sponsors in Palo Alto last Sunday. She texted me in the morning and we met a few minutes before the event started. We rushed into a women’s restroom in the back of an office complex
Thankfully I had all my makeup and hair tools with me from the night before in Santana Row so I quickly took over the entire counter space and got to work
Then Hermione rushed out to the event where the Bravo! crew was filming

Thanks for reading and while I try to keep my blog upbeat and a bit superficial (aka styling, clothes and makeup) I need to mention a topic much deeper now. Although I’m very close to my family, I grew up in a small town with a group of friends I consider my second family and to this day, we all stick together in times of need.
I’ve spent some of the best, funniest and most awkward moments of my life with them hanging out in vineyards, fields and Denny’s. Tragically, our dear friend Blake (below with my sister) was in a motorcycle accident in Orange County two weeks ago and has been in a coma fighting for his life since….
Jody+Steliga,+Blake+Boardman
Blake’s family has been by his side in Long Beach, CA since the accident and we’re all hoping, praying and helping in any way we can. If you’re from our NorCal hometown of Ukiah or anywhere, we’ve set up a fund for Blake Boardman and his family to help them through this difficult time. You can read more about Blake here
Thanks and I hope you’re having a good weekend simple smile

Unisex Fashion Alert! Feast Your Eyes on Chubbies Shorts…

Chubbies+shorts,+Savvy+Spice+fashion+blog,+Dale+Janee+Steliga,+short+shorts+for+guys,

Only a men’s clothing company could get away with naming its line ‘Chubbies.‘ Can you imagine women going gaga over brands like J. ChubChubbyGirl Margaritas or Christian ChuboutinsProbably Not. So what are Chubbies? They are a new brand of men’s short shorts based out of San Francisco known for their vibrant colors, elastic waistband and a huge following thanks to their genius marketing.

The Chubbies phenomenon is growing and they’re selling out of the thigh baring shorts faster than you can say “Whoa, that’s a lotta leg.”While the style may be a bit too frat-boyish/80’s country club chic for you; these shorts are super comfortable and an instant statement-maker. Plus, this post is the perfect opportunity to explore unisex styles as I aimed to feminize a mens collared shirt & Chubbies shorts with pops of pink & girly accessories…

Guy Style Featuring my Brother
Savvy+Spice,+Drew+Steliga+Chubbies+Shorts,+brown+loafers,+Celebrity+Style+for+less.

Can All Guys Wear Chubbies Shorts? ~ Pretty Much, but not all will. My brother Drew, who’s essentially Scott Disick Jr. in terms of style is a perfect preppy candidate for Chubbies. I’ve mentioned in the past I know plenty of guys who are a little insecure about their thighs and may shy away from Chubbies. If you fall into that category, Don’t be, women love guys’ legs! I guarantee you’ll get more smiles, giggles & FB friend requests after a day out in Chubbies compared to a pair of dark wash Sevens. However, they might look a little awkward on any guy with really long legs. I can’t picture Lebron sporting these.

Style tip ~ Wear Chubbies with solid or bright collared shirts, polos, or V-Necks. Then pair them with neutral loafers (like this Mezlan pair) or boat shoes, no socks needed. If you’re worried your thighs have a major farmer tan from afternoons spent in cargo or boardshorts, I have a Men’s Self-Tanning Special Video coming soon.

If you want to get your thighs in a pair of Chubbies, sign up for their free newsletter HERE or Follow them on Twitter @Chubbies to know as soon as they’re re-stocked.

Women Wearing Mens Shorts ~ A Do or a Don’t? ~ Women have been wearing men’s Levi’s cut-offs for decades, but what about other styles? Cargos are out of the question. Chubbies are perfect because while they’re menswear, but they’re still short enough for women to style confidently without giving off that “walk of shame” vibe. They were featured on the Today Show recently showing how women can wear men’s styles this summer…

Have you seen Chubbies Shorts in your city this summer and what is your favorite menswear item if you have one?

Weekend Body Paint plus a PR Refresher for Bloggers & Brands

Girls Night Out! Summer staycations can be a perfect get-away to clear your mind without breaking the bank. Have you taken one in your city lately?

This weekend, my mom, aunt, sister and I drove 40 minutes south of San Francisco to Santana Row in San Jose for an Art~Charity~Denim event hosted by Lotus Premium Denim. Part of the proceeds went to Career Closet which is an organization helping to empower women re-entering the workforce and Lotus encouraged anyone attending to bring clothes to donate. I was excited to be part of the art show after collaborating with Lotus, but I was beyond impressed with the event and learned valuable PR lessons for every brand or blogger planning future events….

Dale+Steliga,+Savvy+Spice+fashion+blog,+Santana+Row,+Lotus+Premium+Denim
Everybody loves a ‘Red Carpet’ Moment! ~ As guests entered the event, there was a ‘Lotus Premium Denim’ back drop and a body painted mannequin (they have 2 named Serena & Blair) in their denim. A backdrop with your company logo is nothing new, but they’re not just for celebrity events and movie premieres anymore. They look professional and with facebook tags in full effect; backdrops are perfect for spreading the word about your company online. Post all the pics on your company FB page and watch people tag away increasing your event’s exposure! Bloggers can do this too. (me, my sister, my Aunt Jean & Mom)
The Venue
Choose Wisely ~ We stayed at the beautiful Valencia Hotel and the Lotus Event was just accross the street in the Lavare Apartment complex. Easy (free) parking, gorgeous location, and there was both an indoor and outdoor setting in the courtyard.
Santana Row ~ Is an outdoor shopping center with condos, restaurants, supreme shopping, and perfect summer weather so it’s easy to see why this location is ideal for a fashion/art event
Your Product Placement
Show, Tell & Try those Babies On ~ Lotus had champagne, cocktails, plus a changing room for anyone interested in trying on their denim. The launch of Lotus Premium Denim since last September landed the ladies at the GBK Celebrity Gift Lounge at the MTV Movie Awards this year. If you ever get a chance to have a celeb (even if it’s a D-Lister) take a pic with your product or you as a blogger, (as long as it fits with your brand) definitely tweet it, post it, frame it and display it at your future events. Big brands pay for celeb endorsements;  if you can get it for free, go for it. simple smile

The Guest List

Oh to Be a Muse ~ It’s always exciting to put a face to a blog I follow so I was really happy to meet Cheryl (in person) from the popular Bay Area fashion blog Oh to Be a Muse and her hubby at the event. Depending on your company and brand, if you’re hosting an event, it’s key to invite bloggers along with the public. Not only will they mention your event afterwards if they have a good time; they’ll often promote it early spreading the word via twitter, facebook & their blogs to your target audience if they’re attending.
(Blogger tip~ If you’re a blogger attending a fashion related event, let the organizers know ahead of time and you may be able to get a press pass or establish a good contact with them for future events. Also, if you blog about it, be sure to tweet them & tag the company on FB)
The Art
Combining Forces ~ Sandy Sanjurjo is one of the Lotus founders and an artist which is partly how the Art with Style event emerged with about 10 different paintings displayed just for the event with different women painted for each picture. Collaborating with different companies or your own business partners can create something special for an event. From singing, acting, art, fashion, public speaking; use your hidden talents to draw in guests with an entertainment factor without having to hire someone. Plus, more elements add more buzz & press coverage.
Stay True to Your Brand ~ Lotus Premium Denim was started by 6 young Silicon Valley business women specifically looking to empower women (hence donating to Career Closet & using lotus flowers and tropical colors in each painting) for this event. Their site explains ‘The story of a Lotus flower begins in the mud. It is a glimmer of beauty in a pool of murkiness.’ The body paint was also done tastefully. Playboy-esque body paint would have been bad for their image, plus my mom would have disowned me.
Special thanks to Elaine of Lotus for inviting me to partner with their denim company & be part of the event. Follow LotusPremiumDenim HERE or ‘Like’ them on Facebook HERE to learn about upcoming events
My sister Jody, Sandy Sanjurjo the Artist, & Me. Thanks for reading and I hope these tips help.
DETAILS by Dale (Inspired by Jessica Beil)
Savvy+Spice+fashion+blog,+Dale+Steliga,+Jessica+Beil+at+the+2012+Espys
Celebrity Outfit Inspiration ~ Jessica Beil at the Espys this month. There’s nothing wrong with copying a celeb look to an event especially when you know you won’t end up in a “Who Wore It Better” tabloid or get called out by Joan Rivers on E!’s Fashion Police. For the Lotus event Saturday, I was inspired by Jessica’s look but wanted to wear open toed heels becuase it was a warm night. I found this old white Forever 21 dress from ’08 and paired it with some Zara colorblock heels. (Very Recent on Clearance~HUGE summer Zara sale going on now)
Have you attended any summer events lately and if you have any PR or blogger tips of your own, feel free to share. simple smile

Styling Models in a New Collection of Red Carpet Couture Now in the USA

If you’re in the business of designing bridal couture, you know you’ve created something extraordinary when single ladies instantly re-envision their future fairytale wedding in one of your stunning hair accessories. This is exactly what Hermione Harbutt, famed UK wedding jewelry designer, has created with her handmade collections. Hermione’s one-of-a-kind jewelry was even worn to the Royal Wedding last year, and now she is formally introducing her new collection of Red Carpet Couture to the USA!

This week she invited me to assist her with styling two models wearing nearly 20 headpieces with an entire glam squad. Throughout the day of couture sparkles, I pictured female celebs who might wear the hair pieces on the red carpet as this collection catches Tinseltown’s attention. Her new collection couldn’t be more perfect for a night out, special event or your next birthday celebration.
Here’s a look at my Nikon pics of ‘Behind the Scenes” footage, modeling, and of course plenty of bling shots of Hermione Harbutt’s new collection…

Each model changed hairstyles, makeup and dresses depending on the head piece. This backless dress was by Suzanne Neville

The two pro models for the day (Heather & Geena from Look Modeling Agency). Watching the elaborate shoot, I felt like I was on the set of America’s Next Top Model at times (without Tyra yapping in the background)
Hermione Harbutt in the teal dress is the owner, designer and creator of the entire collection, while professional makeup artist Marsha Litvinova changed each look and lipstick to match the inspired look. All of the hair styles were created by Akiha Imazu

I met both Marsha (makeup) & Akiha (hair) the day of the shoot, but I was amazed at their work and how fast they changed the models looks. I highly recommend them if you need hair or makeup in the Bay Area.

I could see so many Hollywood starlets wearing this gold design. The photoshoot was on an amazingly sunny day at The Villa in San Francisco where the reality show ‘Silicon Valley‘ is often filmed and the recent NY Times article took place about the new show

These dresses were all by TwoBirds and while they’re extremely popular as bridesmaid dresses, they can be worn for any occasion and made into over 10 styles
Shining Star ~ This was one of my favorites I could picture on Blake Lively or Kate Hudson
For a less dramatic look, there were thinner headpieces. I would definitely wear this to dinner or to an event. I could picture Nicole Richie wearing this, what about you?

Hermione Squared
Hermione Way who I’m styling for her reality show ‘Silicon Valley’ and is friends with Hermione Harbutt stopped by for an impromptu shoot. Not to confuse anyone, yes they’re both named Hermione and no, they were not named after the Harry Potter character. They were born a few years before that phenomenon. (Sidenote) You may recognize the style of this red dress by Beulah London is a designer Kate Middleton wears often

Then it was off to interviews for her ‘Silicon Valley’ so I helped her put her earrings in and she was on her way…

Are you Ready for some High Volume Drama?
Heather in classic black & white in a Stephanie Allin dress
Emerald Elegance ~ I could picture Mila Kunis or Jessica Alba wearing this piece
Red on the rooftop in classic black headpiece perfect for JLO perhaps
Lady Gaga in San Francisco?
I love this head/face piece, plus it would be perfect for any event when I didn’t get enough sleep the night before
And that’s a wrap… Amazing Photography by Dana Hartigay
Videographer and showcase ‘Behind the Scenes’ footage coming soon by Scott Hammel. Check out his site Scotterpop.com

Crew ~ Models, stylists, creator & producers, makeup, hair, videographer & even an impressive kraft services. What a team and I really appreciated the experience helping style on a shoot like this! simple smile

I rarely wear headbands anymore, but I’m definitely adding pieces of this collection to my wishlist for future events! Not to mention her bridal collection which is available now.
Have you ever worn a hair accessory for a special occasion?

Special LA Red Carpet Event Next Week!
Hermione Harbutt will be hosting a private champagne reception to showcase and celebrate the launch of Red Carpet Couture accessories at a top west Hollywood venue on July 25th. For more information about this new collection or to request an invitation, please contact Hermione by emailing info@hermioneharbutt.com
