Can you imagine Laura Ingalls from Little House on the Prairie hanging out with Snooki? Oh, how times have changed, but if you ever read the Little House books or watched reruns of the hit series; you may have imagined yourself transplanted into prairie livin’ every now and then.
Whether you wanted to be Melissa Gilbert’s character on the show or had a little crush on Michael Landon, here’s how “Little House” is still influencing us today from dating to fashion…
Little House on the Vineyard ~ The photos in this post were taken near Ukiah, CA in Mendocino County (1-Hour North of Sonoma) near multiple wineries with no tasting fees and an indescribable hometown feel.
Come visit or drive through this summer!
Loosen Up ~ Braids have been everywhere the past few years, but they’ve evolved. The two tightly woven side braids seen on the Little House on the Prairie daughters can be replaced with a loose messy braid, a fish tail, or your favorite version.
I Heart Maxi Skirts from Mendocino County to San Francisco ~ They’re appropriate for almost any occasion, they’re comfortable, and come is a huge variety from pleated sheer with slits. Best of all they can easily be dressed up or down. This is my country vineyard version, see my sister’s Full House SF maxi here
He ‘Likes’ My Status Update, He ‘Likes’ It Not ~ Technology has changed the old fashioned petal plucking “He Likes Me, He Likes Me Not” game, but the concept is still the same. If it’s a new relationship and he likes you, he’ll let you know on Facebook via liking, tagging, commenting, messaging and hopefully not ‘poking.’
A Flower is Timeless Gesture ~ Guys can feel silly buying a woman a bouquet of flowers on a non-holiday, but a single rose or simply picking her a flower on a hike can have the same “Awww” effect on her. Do you like getting flowers?
Running Barefoot in the Grass ~ Kind of. In most cities, the last thing you want touching the sidewalk is your bare feet, so flat summer sandals are the next best option. Look for a comfortable pair depending on your toes’ preferences.
Girl Power Through the Grapevine ~ From Laura Ingalls Wilder’s best selling “Little House” novels to YOU; whether you’re a blogger, starting your own business or have something on your to-do list you’ve been meaning to tackle, reach out to other women (even if it’s a Google search) to find out the best approach or tips before you get started. Asking questions can get you major time saving responses!
