My First Youtube Tutorial~Secrets for Flawless Legs in 2012

I created my first “How To” video last week. I uploaded it to my brand new Youtube channel and was about to post it when I heard about the viral craziness of “Kony 2012” which now has over 74 million views. It’s the most powerful YouTube video I’ve ever seen, and suddenly my ‘airbrush leg’ tutorial seemed superficial and unimportant. I began reading tons of “Kony 2012” articles paying very close attention to the praise and scrutiny the charity that created the video was receiving. What did you think about “Kony 2012”? Will you be plastering posters all over your city on April 20th as instructed in the video?

While I’m curious to see what will happen with the YouTube social experiment, the fact remains daylight savings has passed and Spring is officially here next week! It’s time to share exactly how to apply my new favorite 2012 “Flawless Leg” secrets. I’ll include the products I used in this video below:

Products Used
1. Sally Hansen Airbrush legs – $12.35 here (the key with this product is to take your time & blend well)
2. Lotion – Victoria’s Secret Heavenly Shine or try VS Sunkissed Bronze Instant Self-Tan Lotion with tint -$12
3. Victoria’s Secret Brilliant Shimmer All-Over Powder (new color- Bronze Goddess) -$14 (used to create the highlights on the legs)
Before & After Proof
My sister has thin legs, but there’s a major difference in my two previous posts where she’s wearing nothing on her bare legs in “Spicing Up the Office” post compared to how they’re glowing and more defined in the “Chillin’ at the Creamery” after going through this exact process. Hope these tips help 🙂
Let me know if you have any of your own ‘Leg’ tips. Are you a fan of the Sally Hansen spray?
xoDale
Hope you had a great weekend, see you Wednesday. 🙂
Also, thank you so much to Shalini of the blog StylishByNature for the Boticca giftcard. She’s currently giving away a $50 FoxHouse giftcard.

Sally Hansen airbrush legs is god sent! I have about four cans right now in my bathroom, I am always stocked up on this. I also use it on my chest area, its like instant tan for me. I liked once better, it didn’t have shimmer in them, but whatever still love it.

Hi Dale – Great tutorial & I love your tips! I love Sally Hansen but haven’t combined it with your other two steps so I can’t wait to try it out! I love how you showed a “before” & “after” post! I can see the difference! Thanks so much for posting something that is helpful– especially for girls like me who slather myself with sunscreen every time I’m out in the sun! <3 Angie

  11. What a cool video! I totally would have never even known/thought of doing this! I always kinda neglect my legs. that’s a no-no when you are wearing dresses for springtime!! haha. There really is a huge difference in the way her legs look in the two posts, so cool how glow-y and awesome they look in the creamery one! Thanks for always giving us all new tips on how we can look our best, Dale 🙂

    • Thanks Ashley, Yea I’ve definitely realized what a difference it can make and since there is barely any chance to tan our legs here in SF it definitely helps. hehe

You’re so gorgeous! I think being aware, researching, and donating is doing your part as far as KONY 2012 is concerned. Love your blog as always!

I love the idea for the video!! The tips are great! I think KONY 2012 really shows us the power of social media and technology in these modern times. A movement like this would not have existed even 9 years ago when everyone had a dial-up modem and facebook didn’t exist!

  19. I used the Sally Hansen tanning spray and it did not work for me.
I looked like I had carrot legs and it took forever to go away 🙁

    • That sucks Lorena, yea it can look really bad if it’s streaky but that’s weird it didn’t go away right away. It’s not tanner so it should wash right off 🙂 Hope it works better next time

Your sister has great legs and what a difference in the two posts! I absolutely love your nail polish in this clip – what shade is it?
    Emma xx

    • Yea, it’s surprising how much of a difference it can make. The nail polish is a brand called Sinful Colors and the shade is Fusion Neon 60. I got it last year at Walgreens. I think they still have it 🙂

  28. What a great blog! I just discovered it and am now following! I just started my blog three weeks ago and would love for you to check it out and follow back if you like it!

  29. LOVE this blog and YouTube video! I have those Irish legs that can be very blotchy and I am going to try this once it gets a bit warmer. One question: have you heard of St. Tropez Bronzer? Is it worth the price? And any recommendations on non-chemical, natural self-tanner’s?

    Thanks, Dale! Keep ’em coming!

    • Hey Natalie! Thanks and I have really pale legs too. I’ve used St. Tropez and it’s good but I prefer Fake Bake spray. It’s best to use at night though and then when you wake up just shower. It’s the best self tanning color I’ve found but it has a strong smell for sure. ;(

This is really cool! Keep ’em up!

  31. Great tips and the process seems really easy! I do see much difference on your sister’s legs between these posts.
Thank you so much for commenting on my blog!

    • You’re welcome and yes, it’s pretty easy. I probably spent 4 minutes per each leg applying it for her even though I edited it down to about 2 min. Just blend well and if you really mess up, it always washes off hehe 🙂

  32. Pretty Affair says:

the video is great! and I am a fan of Sally Hansen spray. I haven’t tried the darker one though.

This is such a cool tutorial! I’m always looking for ways to make my legs look nice in the summer, so this will definitely be something I will try.

As for the Kony 2012 thing, I am not really a fan. The message of global togetherness and bringing Kony to justice is so important and I fully support that. But I can’t get behind the video or the organization because it’s so misleading. It really oversimplifies the issue on so many levels, and I think the point of view from which the organization is based from is all kinds of skewed. And then I don’t like how the U.S. is always trying to insert itself into the geopolitics of other countries. It never works out, and still, they keep on doing it. I’m not saying that we should turn our backs on Uganda and not try to help them, but running in there with military force is not the way to do it. It didn’t work in Afghanistan, didn’t work in Iraq (either time), didn’t work in Vietnam, didn’t work on the Korean Peninsula, didn’t work in Cuba, didn’t work in South America…it pretty much never works.

I’m also mildly pissed that the week of Earth Day, people are going to cover the whole world in paper made from trees.
But I will stop now. Sorryy for the novel.

  43. Style-Delights says:

Great tutorial Dale!! I heard about Sally Hansen airbrush makeup but was apprehensive about it leaving marks on the surfaces – like couches etc.. Is it non-transferable? Hope you are having a wonderful day!

  44. I’ve wanted to try this out for a while! Since I started my blog, I’m oddly more adventurous (?) with wearing bottoms that expose my legs. I’m not a fan of my legs since I’m not tall by any means, and I’m incredibly pale so I feel a bit self-conscious. Thanks for the tips!
