Lunch, bruch, cockails and coffee dates are KEY to see if those initial conversations have the potential to lead down the road to ‘relationship central’ or take a sharp left to the land of ‘friends zone.’ SF has endless neighborhoods of yummy restaurants and cute cafes so while my friends and I were enjoying the super warm weather last Sunday, I snapped a few pics of my sister on a “fake date” with my brother’s friend, Morgan. Sounds complicated already? I assure you no feelings were harmed in the making of this post and both parties claim they only ‘like’ each other as friends.
I’d like to introduce you to Morgan and my sister, Jody, (who you’ve seen often on my blog). The two are wearing some some casual spring fashion trends on a fake date at the Creamery in San Francisco. I have a few tips during the early stages of dating and please feel free to share your’s….
Simple dates equal less pressure. There doesn’t have to be a stuffy over-priced dinner, there’s more of an opportunity to be yourself and a more respectable chance to bail if the date is really THAT bad.
Body Language: She’s leaning back and clutching her little iPad purse meaning she’s not into close talkers. And he gets that, so he’s giving her space. +1 Morgan
Why So Serious? Girls always say they like a guy with a great sense of humor and…it’s true. +1 Morgan
Sunshine, Crepes & Mimosas ~The Creamery is a Hot Spot! It was recently featured on the popular tech blog Uncrunched as “the place” to meet up now that so many companies like Twitter & Zynga are based in SF.
Spring ’12 Must Have Accessories: I’m a big fan of playful white watches and anything in mint like these earrings from F21. Ladylike hats are also stylish on sunny days~ H&M.
I’m excited to announce I’m partnering with Report Footwear ~These “Farrah” sandals are from their NEW spring line.
Casual Spring Date Apparel: For her~ I wanted her comfy, but still cute so I opted for a girly white lace skirt and denim top with the Report sandals. For him~ Dark denim (Levis 501) is easy with a plaid or plain collared shirt (H&M) (please leave shirt untucked with jeans). Stick with neutral shoes (Sperry TopSiders) and opt for a watch (Fossil) and shades as accessories.
BEHIND the SCENES
It was a busy day at the Creamery as my sister and I met up with my friend and fellow Bay Area blogger, Sara, of Aqui on her shoot for the City Supply Co. and their new “March Madness” tee’s here.

Watch~Michael Kors, Bracelets & ring~F21, skit~(old) Crossroads Trading Co., day clutch ~Rodebjer
nail polish~OPI “Italian Love Affair”
Special thanks to Jody and Morgan for creating some pretty authentic looking fake chemistry.
What is your favorite kind of simple date? Are you okay with a frappuccino on the patio or do you prefer filet mignon and fine wine?
Have a great weekend!

Definitely prefer casual dates! They’re always so much more fun, relaxing, and you usually don’t feel the pressure to put on a facade for the other if you’re in a less stuffy atmosphere.
I’d like them as a couple! Haha, they’d be cute.
Cute idea for this post
Great style and photos

hehe, they would be cute. And I totally agree I prefer casual dates too.
I agree! Casual dates and the best and super low pressure. Your sister is beautiful and I need her sandals!

I’m a big fan of casual dating. I rather not have much pressure be on the guy’s side. it’s kind of rude for a girl to want a super pricy dinner. Also they would be such a cute couple!
LOVE this look Dale!! Can you please style my everyday?! i mean seriously.
And Jody & Morgan did a fab job at the “fake” chemistry! I would have never known! They look cute together! Hope your doing great honey!
xoxo Inna
Aww, thanks Inna. And yea, they did a great job.

This post is so so true and your sister’s outfit is adorable. My husband and I do simple dates like ice cream all the time. It’s so much better than the stuffy formal ones. I love the shoes. That’s so great for you!

Thanks Sara! I didn’t realize I was gonna add those tips either til I saw them in the photos and thought it would work out. hehe
Can’t wait for our next meet up
I LOVE this outfit! It looks so cute and feminine, and the fedora, shoes, and accessories perfectly complete the look

I love casual dates…formal ones feel like…job interviews, idk. I don’t like them, and then I get all stiff and uncomfortable, and then there’s no second date, which is okay sometimes but not okay when I actually like the guy lol.
And your sister looks so beautiful! I’m jealous of her legs.
Such a good point, I never thought of how the formal ones are like job interviews
Beautiful posts and very nice blog! Congrats on your work!
Perhaps you’d like to follow each other?:)

My first date with my husband was lunch under a palm tree – casual and a great way to get to know each other a little better.
That sounds very romantic Jennifer. Hope it was on a tropical island..hehe

My favorite simple dates are going somewhere for an appetizer instead of a full meal! Or maybe ice cream!
I love the denim in your outfit, perfect for spring!

Rule №1: Never ever wear heels on first date! There’s nothing more awkward than being taller than your date.
haha, this is SO true. My sister was almost too tall in these pics. They were like the exact same height
I recently stumbled across your blog and I LOVE it! I love the layout to the content and everything in between! I am your newest, most avid follower.
Love from, THE EASTERN PEARL
Wow, such interesting post idea!! It shows this is written by a fashion blogger who knows how to ‘write’! LOL..Your sister looks pretty and so comfortable on her first (fake) date! I love Morgan’s all American shirt and blue jeans look! My first date rule (although no longer in practice as I am happily married for 9 years!!) is never to put anything you need special attention to – any straps that need to be put back in place again and again, any shoes that need band-aid on pinkie toe after walking 2 blocks in or dark lipstick that leaves stain on glass/teeth!
I just stumbled upon your blog and loved it! I am following you on GFC and would appreciate if you check out my blog and may be follow back too! I am journalist turned fashion blogger too!;-)
Hope you are having a wonderful day!

Thank you Jyoti. I appreciate the compliments and feedback. Congrats on your 9 years of marriage and that is a very good point to not wear anything that needs too much paying attention to. I’ve done this and almost fallen in bad heels or needed a taxi after 2 blocks and looked totally high maintenance.
great photos dear! I love them!
