Red October: How to Mad Men-ify Yourself

The cast of MadMen and its retro wardrobes captivated the fashion industry since the show debuted and the classic trends don't appear to be pumping the brakes anytime soon. It's a hot Halloween costume idea again and there were a handful of fall shows created in the same era such as Pan Am and The Playboy Club even though it tanked. Not to mention, there's an entire Banana Republic MadMen clothing line.

If you watch, you'll notice Peggy, Joan and Betty's lives seem to be falling apart at times, and yet they're always put together. Dressed to the nines whether they're baking, puffing on a cig, or preparing a stiff cocktail for guys in the office. It shows stereotypes, sexual harassment, smoking, and real life situations of women in the 60's, but the acting is great and the wardrobes alone are too stunning not to watch. They inspired me to create my own MadMen look in my favorite fall color, RED.

I found this dress at one of my favorite boutiques in San Francisco called Belle Cose. When I saw this dress in the window, I instantly thought of MadMen. My friend and I took these pics in an area that has creeped me out since I was a kid full of old cars and an abandoned house.

Dress- BB Dakota, Heels -Steve Madden Luxe, Car- Super Old Chevorlet

No retro look would be complete without Jackie O inspired shades

When wearing this 60's silhouette style dress, it's better to have the belt a little loose.
It's more comfortable and actually more flattering

Leopard is one of my favorite fall trends, but I wanted a retro style heel

I decided to wear my $10 fake engagement ring.
It seemed appropriate for my 60's housewife look. ;)

There are decaying cars everywhere and
an old haunted shack at the edge of a vineyard that used to be a house for workers.

SAW IX ? I don't recommend standing in heels on the hood of a car that's
been rusting for decades with shattered glass all over it. :)

This era was all about pencil skirts and curve enhancing dresses for women. The star, Don Draper, and the other men from the show are quite dapper. Brooks Brothers custom-made suits and skinny ties were the classic look for men in the show. For detailed tips how to get the look from each character, click here.

Are you a fan of retro styles and "Mad Men?"
Happy Halloween and have fun in whatever costume you wear!
xoDale

I also have a little announcement to my readers in California. If you want to spice up your wardrobe or create a photoshoot in a setting you love for engagement photos, senior pics, etc. my team and I are available. :)

  3. You look amazing in that dress and I love the props. I was wondering how you managed to stand on the hood of that rusty car with your heels on. I am so clumsy lol Also, Loved reading about Mad Men. It's interesting because 60s is known for the women's liberation movement. Very interesting decade.

  5. I am definitely a fan of retro styles. I always like incorporating vintage pieces in my outfits. Although I don't watch Mad Men, I still appreciate the fab clothes. That red dress is a steal and I love the location. It's perfect for Halloween! :D

I haven't decided what to dress as yet for Halloween, but I'm leaning towards Grecian Goddess.

  18. Between Mad Men and How I Met Your Mother, the thought of 'Suiting Up' is more common for men.

And I love it. I look damn good in a suit, and now it's a little more acceptable.
