Do you (ladies) ever wake up to this real-life skincare nightmare? You come home after a fun night out, lay down and fall asleep only to wake up in the morning with the sun peaking through your windows.
When this happens on rare occasion, I'll open my eyes and wonder "Did I remember to wash my make-up off last night?" I'll slowly reach my hand to my face and gently brush my fingers against my eyelashes. If I feel the double coat of Loreal mascara still on from the night before I'll scream, "Nooooo!" After accepting I commited one of the "Seven Deadly Skin Sins," I'll run to the sink and wash it off.
"When skin is suffocated (with makeup) your natural collagen building process is compromised" -totalbeauty.com
WHY is it SO important to wash makeup off before bed?
"At night is when all of your skin rejuvenation happens. If you wear makeup to bed your skin can't
get the oxygen it needs." -totalbeauty.com
Some women have what I call SUPER skin and aren't really affected by sleeping in makeup.
Are you one of them? It leaves my complexion tired the next day, my eyelashes brittle, plus it can cause blemishes & clog pores. I recommend women & men wash their face before hitting the sack.
When you're wearing a full face of makeup, it can be easier to use makeup remover first (I like Clinique or Neutrogena) and then wash
I JUST heard about a Dutch study called "Natural Beauty" on Nowness.com. A model was applied with 365 day's worth of makeup on her face in ONE day. It took 9 hours to apply using 228.40ml of makeup!
Results are below:
From natural to 365 layers of makeup in 1 day

I don't really understand the point of this experiment. It's kinda gross. And I wish they would have showed how long it took her to wash off all those layers. :)
I DO know I never want to accidently sleep in my makeup again!
Have a great weekend!

That video was very interesting.... I personally never wondered what a year's worth of makeup would look like on a woman all splatted on her face in one day but now I know. Very interesting, and yes I would have loved to see her wash it off.

I can't go to bed without removing my makeup / washing my face --the ritual has become too ingrained into my head.
ReplyDelete365 layers!! I wonder how many inches it added to her face!

ReplyDeleteThat experiement was gross, it looks like her skin is melting off her face!
TOTALLY just passed out last night doing this, but thankfully, it was only for about 3 hours before i woke up and rushed to the sink to wash it all off. i really really try to never ever do it, but we're all only human.

GROSS!! omgosh when i USE to club haha i would be so drunk i could barely wash my makeup off.. but sometimes i would get home and be like "nooo i have to take it off" and then i would wake up in the morning and find myself sleeping on the bathroom floor.. proof that i attempted to take it off HAHAHAHA.
ReplyDeletethanks for the tip dale.. that's so funny that you got patted down because they thought you were hiding things underneath your maxi hahahaha
@ Lisa..haha that's funny and yea last weekend at the airport twice in Maxi Dresses they stopped me and said they are "patting down women in long dresses now." Airport security apparently is unaware of the trend "Maxi dress"
ReplyDelete@Mary and Dyer -I have a Clarisonic too and love it, I think it really works
oh my gosh. this is why i always wash my face. right when i get home and i have nowhere else to go, i go straigh to my bathroom to rinse off my makeup. i don't really like keeping it on for a long time.
ReplyDeleteI just came across your blog today. It's Very LOVELY :]

it is definitely sooo important! I wash mine off each night, and if I'm too tired, I at least used a makeup removing wipe!

I'm the world's worst at sleeping in my makeup. :( I need to do better! That experiment is GROSS! ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend!
Happens to me a lot too, the absolute worst. What I've found has really helped is keeping some face cloths the one's with a wash and make up remover right on my night stands table so on those nights where the worst thing in the world sounds like splashing cold water on my face I can just roll over and quickly swipe one over my face and eyes - a total lifesaver! Just be careful because some can be super harsh and oily (like rubbing strong eye make up remover all over your face). I'd recommend "Say Yes to Cucumbers" all natural, strong enough to get the makeup off but soft enough for my sensitive breakout prone skin. Hope this helped! xx

ReplyDeletei don't wear a ton of make up, but when i do, if i happen to fall asleep with mascara on, my eyes ACHE in the morning.

Uh oh I'm guilty of never washing off my makeup before bed. I just wear mascara and sometimes foundation but still that's kinda gross that I keep layering it on over the old stuff!
ReplyDeleteWow that experiment is really gross but interesting at the same time
ReplyDelete9 hours of just applying makeup? Some people don't even get that much sleep!
