To Tan or Not to Tan?

There’s Something About Mary-Magda

My Magda Cum Laude high school days are over. Those afternoons of climbing a ladder onto my parent’s roof with my sister, slathering on baby oil, and tanning for as long as we could handle it will not be happening anymore. I accepted years ago I have the skin tone of Casper the Friendly Ghost and I can fight it and bake in the sun, or try to protect it. But who likes caking their face with sunscreen every morning only to look into a mirror by noon to hear your pores saying, “why are you doing this to us?”

There are so many makeup products with SPF on the market now to protect your face from the sun’s harmful rays. Here are my two favorites I try to use every morning, rain or shine, on my face and neck.

1. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer
It’s lightweight, doesn’t clog pores, and best of all it’s SPF 20. You can apply it with your fingers or a makeup brush. The reviews on the site speak for themselves and Laura Mercier is a great line of products. Wear it alone or under your foundation and then it’s time for a light dusting of my favorite powder sunscreen below.

2. Colorscience Sunforgettable SPF 30
I discovered Sunforgettable powdered sunscreen about five years ago and I love it. More importantly, it works and it’s recommended by dermatologists. I’ve been out in the sun all day before and didn’t get burned.

There are 3 shades:
Clear, which is a clearish white powder
Perfectly Clear which is what I use and it’s for for light to medium skin tones
Almost Clear which is the darkest shade

They come in different packaging options depending on what you prefer, but I buy the shaker jar (lasts me about 6 months) and use a fluffy makeup brush to apply. It’s a nice mineral powder that isn’t greasy and feels like it sets my makeup. It’s sold in dermatologists offices, spas, or online. I always order mine from dermstore.com. It’s been safe, reliable and it’s always free shipping! 🙂

Sidenote- I’m not sure why it says “Very Water Resistant” on the label because it’s not. If you’re going swimming or working out in the sun a lot, I don’t recommend powder sunscreen. It’s too pricy for all over use, so stick to SPF lotions or sprays for your body.
